John Layne - 02/28/2009 I've had mine a couple of weeks now and so far I'm really happy with it. It's a really pretty machine, and the only gripe so far I might have is the keyboard layout. That's not a big deal though as I usually use a USB keyboard. Janet (previous reviewer), I thought my screen was too light & washed out looking too, in fiddling with settings I found "digital vibrance". Try playing with that, under both Windows 7 Beta and Arch Linux tweaking "digital vibrance" really brought my screen to life. Oblvion looks beautiful now, I'd assumed it was just another dark game.
Anyway, I'm really happy so far with this lappy. It's so light, yet is very powerful and easy to use. Under both W7B and Linux, I've had very little trouble getting things to work. So far the hardest thing to get working was the Motorola Phone Tools but that's fine now, no reflection on the machine. Though it's obviously not a screaming hot gaming machine, I'm running Oblivion and Nexiuz quite nicely, as well as general apps like OpenOffice, Anki, Opera, Firefox, gcc, etc. I haven't really needed to bug XoticPC much about anything yet, just some impatient emails while it was being assembled and tested, and the replies were always quick, patient, polite, and helpful. So, again, I'm very happy with this machine, it's so far just what I was hoping without any extra baggage. |
Janet Xu - 10/18/2008 Decent but not #1 in performance, interesting features, solid quality, great modest brushed aluminum look, well designed cooling system, and somewhat dark but otherwise decent screen basically sums the most important factors up. The screen probably won't work too well in a well lit room (which I usually don't work in, so idc), but is otherwise a great screen.. good viewing angles, etc. Thanks Xotic.. Loving my purchase. |
