Kevin Butorac - 07/09/2009 Sager NP5797 (Orange trim) Review
**PROS:
- Powerful system
- Very easy to open up and clean
- Keys on keyboard are quiet, comfortable and sleek
- Professional look--no flashing LED lights all over, but still maintains a cool gaming presence
- Beautiful, bright and vibrant screen...doesn't overpower you at all
- Good heat control and ventilation
- Big but necessary
**CONS:
- Sound jacks are all on front
- Speakers on the sides
- Fans a little loud
- Tad heavy, but expected in a desktop replacement
**XoticPC did a fantastic job--computer arrived VERY fast (7 days), fantastic condition, no missing guides or backup CD's, and no dead pixels (even without dead pixel guarantee). Props to everyone there that helped make one more happy customer. DEFINITELY suggest purchasing any gaming laptops from them.
**This laptop is one helluva machine. Runs any modern MMORPG at complete max settings with NO issues. Can be undervolted or overclocked easily too, but not necessary at all. This machine can handle most everything at standard settings. The screen is vibrant, big and as clear as anything I've seen. The 5797 stays very cool, loads everything incredibly fast and operates very well. It is a little heavy but easy to bring from location to location--the mobility is completely worth the money. The wireless networking is fantastic...much better signal than my family's other laptops (VAIO and Dell Studio) at the same locations. The biggest downfall is that the fans get a tad loud when doing heavy usage...but I completely forgot they were going after about 2 minutes...not bad at all. It's incredibly easy to open up and clean...so this makes it easier to keep the fan levels to a minimum anyway. The speakers being located on the side of the computer was a little sketchy to me at first, but they are strong and do very well. I was quite impressed with that.
**Overall, I think this machine offers the best bang for your buck. Easy to open, exerts little energy for the power it brings and it games like a champion. You'd be wrong to get anything else at a price of around $2000. ROCK ON SAGER AND XOTICPC. Props to both of ya! Great machine and even better service!! |
Jeremy Cranford - 06/11/2009 I have greatly enjoyed my Sager NP5797 thus far. 2.66mhz 6mb fsb P9600; 2GB 1066mhz ram; 320gb 7200rpm HD, 280M Gfx.
The computer is blazing fast, even with Windows Vista Ultimate Edition. The monitor has amazing resolution, and, due to that high resolution, I can do multitasking work on it like I usually have to have multiple-monitor computers for. However, I also use a multiple-monitor setup with this computer through Matrox's TripleHead2Go (Note: this computer doesn't support dual-link DVI, so dont buy the Digital Edition of the TH2G, go with the Analog version _which is the one that XoticPC advertises_ Granted, the Digital Edition still works, but the Analog is cheaper and ends up with the same functionality due to the lack of Dual-Link support from this computer.).
I greatly enjoy this computer. My only real gripes are a lack of a "mute" button (it does have volume-up/down buttons). Additionally, the sound from this computer's onboard speakers is rather weak - but you really shouldnt expect much from such a small package with regard to sound - just use headphones.
With regard to the computer's performance - I am able to max-out the settings on FarCry2 at 1900x1200 with no slowdown whatsoever. (I do still need to try it in surround-gaming-mode on 3x1200x1000 monitors through my TripleHead2Go, but I imagine this computer will push that fine with some tuning down of shadows, etc.)
Ah yes, the only other downside I can see with this computer is the fan noise. You get used to it and it is really not bad, but it is definitely louder than most laptops - however, you should expect that with such a powerful laptop.
All and all, this laptop blows pretty much anything out of the water at this price - and its pretty mobile (low weight considering the performance and size of screen).
I do, however, wish I had waited a few weeks, as they've now started offering better processors and harddrives at lower prices than when I purchased - but hey, thats the nature of the computer business... I still love my Sager NP5797. |
Jason Halsey - 01/23/2009 This was my first laptop purchase and I could not have chosen a better company. The Support team is fantastic and the buying process was fast and easy. If you are in the market for a gaming pc or laptop that you can cutomize to your needs this should be your choice. I would recommend going into the forums and asking questions. The support staff will provide answers and different perspectives on what is best for your needs. I customized my NP5797 to play Warhammer and FPS like COD4 and it plays them flawlessly. |
