Adrian Luk - 03/11/2010 I bought this "desktop" knowing that I would not get good battery life or be very mobile. So I will not decrease my rating of this laptop on any of those terms.
I am an architecture student that commutes downtown almost everyday for an hour and a half with this thing on my back. It is killer but it's worth it.
It terms of creating large presentation boards filled with graphics on Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign; I can't ask for anything faster. Same goes for modeling and rendering large scale buildings with complicated material sets in Google Sketchup, AutoCad, Rhino. This laptop is so much faster than my old Macbook Pro T7500 + 128MB 8600M GT but that isn't a really fair comparison.
I am an occasional gamer, this laptop can't be beat, only by those 18" ers with SLi.
However, there are a few user unfriendly things about this laptop.
1) Bluetooth module does not remember to stay on after reboots, my 3 year old MAC did.
2) Have to remove 3 screws to get the battery out. I bought an extra battery unaware of this... guess I can't really switch batteries on-the-go too easily.
3) This laptop does not support XP therefore, does not have IDE mode for the hard drives (only AHCI/RAID), therefore I am unable to update my firmware on my OCZ Vertex SSD.
4) GTX 280M does not support 30" monitors (2560x1600 resolution)
Other than those minor issues this laptop is amazing for what I do. I wish Sager would release a new BIOS that would have IDE mode and allow the use of the 2560x1600 resolution. |
Corinne Kennedy - 02/28/2010 I bought this to replace an xps m1530. I use a netbook and desktop at work and I wanted something nice at home for the sofa. I had no real plans to take this out on a daily basis. I haven't moved further than from the arm rest to my lap more than a few times, but it traveled well when I did. I researched it extensively, I wanted to use it as a fully functional gaming machine. I haven't had any problems at all and I've had it for at least four months. It is quiet, barely gets warm even when I game, and it hooks up to the lcd in my livingroom with no problems. I am really happy that I haven't had any problems with hotspots on the case or wrist rest. I considered the Alienwares available and was overly concerned with heat, I didn't want to use (and don't need with this) a laptop cooler.
I have no regrets at this point, and it's kind of fun to have something that can handle a gratuitous program like bumptop and still load up photoshop or games in seconds. I hope to keep it for several years. |
michael garner - 11/24/2009 Ordered this for my wife who does photography. Her sony laptop died and this was her replacement machine. Little skeptical at first, however, this thing is what it advertizes for, a "desktop replacement". Dont be fooled, this machine really uses a desktop I7 920+ processor and fit it on a laptop. Topped off with a more than plenty of horsepower videocard if you want to play games, and plenty of room for hard drives. SInce this was a work machine, topped it off with a pair of the Intel X25 SSDs. Needless to say, it is fast, and this is coming from a QuadCore raid0 (2xraptors 10,000rpm drives) user. The build is solid, one of the coolest laptops Ive used (im talking temperatures here), and it is the only laptop on the market using a desktop processor. It really is a mobile desktop (12lbs) with futureproof horsepower. No regrets whatsoever, its a workhorse. |
Robert Grant - 10/27/2009 Hopefully everyone will read this and also join the ranks of those of us who are truly happy with Xoticpc. Ordered a Sager 9280 with the i7 -975 and I have to say it is truly a screamer. Your staff has been from day of ordering to now real professional , courteous and very knowledgeable. When I order my next laptop one day and I will it will be from you guys. I am also recommending you to all of my friends who are looking for laptops as well.

Build of Computer 10
As soon as I received it yesterday here in Iraq. I immediately erased the hard drive reformatted it and installed XP, Vista and Ubuntu on there. Working to put fedora on there next. The “Beast” as I call mine is truly a screamer.
Thank you for the many sleepless nights coming up. |
Robert Grant - 10/03/2009 Mine has shipped to me and I am anxiously awaiting it. Writing this review now and will do another one once system arrives. The Sales Department along with the Billing Department have been 100% helpful , knowledgable and has worked with me on every step of the way. Also for the record they also ship to APO addresses which really rocks. |
